Winnipeg residents prefer Premier Wab Kinew’s New Democrats to PCs plan for health care by 2-1

Manitoba’s largest labour union says new polling shows that the Manitoba government lead by Wab Kinew is on the right track when it comes to health care.

Polling conducted by Probe Research between February 11 and 27, 2026, among Winnipeg residents shows that Premier Wab Kinew is trusted to handle health care in Manitoba, with 58.9% of respondents agreeing with the statement, “Premier Wab Kinew is committed to fixing health care,” compared with only 24.3% who disagreed.

“This government is working with front-line workers to improve health care, and their commitment shows,” said Margaret Schroeder, President of CUPE 204. “The job isn’t done, but we are seeing real progress.”

The polling also suggests Winnipeg residents have not warmed up to PC Leader Obby Kahn on health care issues, indicating that the damage done by the PCs’ previous government is still fresh in Winnipeg residents’ minds.

Polling shows that 58.6% of Winnipeg residents agreed with the statement, “I trust the NDP more than the PCs to fix health care,” compared with only 24.8% who disagreed.

“The chaos and privatization of the previous government are still fresh in our minds,” said Schroeder. “Even when people think there is more to do, no one wants to go back to the mean PC days.”

“In the last year we have really started to see staffing increases. We need government to keep up the work on recruitment, but this clearly shows we are on the right track,” said Schroeder. “On the front lines we know the work isn’t done.”
